Welcome to Cooinda Primary School in Bunbury

Cooinda Primary School is a level 5 school catering for children from Kindergarten through to Year 6. The new Early Learning Centre and Undercover Area, along with purpose built Art and Music facilities provide outstanding opportunities to expand and deepen the programs currently offered and provide the wider community with an extended range of facilities for out of hours use. Teaching and learning programs incorporate access to a wide range of Information and Communication Technology options and resources. Cooinda provides Physical Education, Music and Visual Art programmes and an Indonesian language program. A partnership with Bunbury Senior High School provides opportunity for extension programmes for Cooinda students, supporting our focus on the pursuit of personal excellence.
Cooinda is the indigenous word for 'happy meeting place' where children are seen as individuals but coming together they reflect a wonderful multicultural community. The school opened in 1968 (original name Trott Street Junior School) and during its first year names were submitted to reflect the ethos of the school. The name accepted by the Department of Education and Training, made Cooinda the first school in Western Australia to hold a name other than the town/district in which it was situated.
The school's motto of 'Pride, Courtesy and Sincerity" continues to drive all we do in our pursuit of excellence. Everyone is welcome at Cooinda. In 2010 Cooinda was selected to become an Independent Public School. This achievement acknowledges the capacity of our school to operate with greater flexibility and autonomy and is a reflection of the work of the staff and community in building student achievement. We are enthusiastic about the opportunities this status gives us and the greater capacity the wider community has for participation in whole school directions.
Effective teaching and strong community partnerships support and strengthen student achievement and performance across learning area. Research clearly articulates the importance of sound teaching in making a positive difference to student performance. Cooinda staff are committed to ongoing self reflection with a purpose of continual renewal in teaching and learning pedagogy.
At Cooinda Primary School we believe :
- Successful students are global citizens who are literate, numerate, and creative, with the social capacity to plan for the future.
- Effective teachers are reflective, organised, collaborative and inspirational, knowledgeable about current educational trends and supportive of their colleagues and students.
- Good schools are safe and welcoming, having clear and consistent expectations of all stakeholders and strong relationships with the wider community through regular and meaningful communications.
